The ISA is an autonomous international organization established under the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 1994 Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of UNCLOS. The Authority is the organization through which States parties to the Convention organize and control activities in the seabed, ocean floor, and subsoil beyond the limits of national jurisdiction.
