About the event

Forest Legality Week aims to enable dialogue and inspire action to more effectively implement and monitor the legal trade in timber and related supply chain and trade policy measures. The event draws participants from a range of countries and from different sectors, including governments, the private sector, civil society, the scientific community, and service providers such as certification bodies. This year’s event will take place as a hybrid event, with in-person sessions taking place in Washington, DC and remote participation options available. The event will focus on a range of topics, including an update on implementation of timber legality regulations in different consumer markets, the evolving policy landscape for international cooperation on forest governance, an update on early warning systems for deforestation, the upcoming CITES COP, policy responses to deforestation in commodity supply chains, and a regional focus on the Amazon basin. As in past years, the main sessions will take place between Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning, with space for side events before and after. If you are interested in organizing a side event for Forest Legality Week, please contact us at forestlegality@wri.org by September 15, 2022. We will send out an initial agenda and logistics information in the next few weeks. We hope that you will join us for a long-delayed opportunity to gather in-person for Forest Legality Week, or will participate remotely in what we hope will be engaging discussions. Sincerely, Charles Barber  Director, Natural Resources Governance and Policy World Resources Institute Invitation and agenda to follow.
