About the event
We are pleased to invite you to learn more about the new IUCN report Situation analysis on the roles and risks of wildlife in the emergence of human infectious diseases. It undertook an extensive review and reflection of the evidence behind the narrative on this subject, engaged expert opinion of the SSC Steering Committee, debated with an advisory group, and was reviewed by external experts. More than 5,000 bibliographic sources spanning three decades were examined to explore how human interactions with domestic and wild animals are linked to zoonoses (diseases that are naturally transmissible from animals to humans, such as e.g. rabies) and emerging infectious diseases of zoonotic origin (diseases caused by pathogens that originated in animals and are now transmitted predominantly from human to human, such as e.g. HIV/AIDS or SARS-2 Coronavirus).
Join us for the webinar Going deep: Situation analysis on the roles and risks of wildlife in the emergence of human infectious diseases, where we will discuss in detail the highlights, key knowledge, and scientific evidence in the report. An open question and answer session will follow a brief presentation.
The webinar will be moderated by Jon Paul Rodríguez, Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, featuring Richard Kock from the Royal Veterinary College and past co-chair of the SSC Wildlife Health Specialist Group, and Hernan Caceres-Escobar from the Royal Veterinary College, Sapienza University of Rome and SSC Wildlife Health Specialist Group member.
