About the event
We are delighted that Director General Dr. Bruno Oberle, President Razan Al Mubarak, Dr. Tracy Farrell (Director of the DC office), and Dr. Susan Lieberman (newly elected Councillor), and several Commission Chairs will be joining us. Please make every effort to attend and to participate actively in these meetings and conversations.
Meeting ID: 889 9603 7973
We do not yet know which Commission Chairs will confirm their attendance. Thus far, we do have confirmations from SSC and WCPA. In advance of our Annual Meeting, it might be useful to review the Commission mandates, which can be accessed via this link: https://www.iucn.org/about/commissions/governance
There will be discussion on key outcomes from the Marseille WCC, particularly regarding some controversial motions and concerns regarding procedural issues.
For those of you who are in the DC area, there will be an in-person reception at the DC office following Day 1. You should already have received this invitation from Debbie Good, but I am attaching here again in case you missed it. Please note: RSVP is required! There are capacity restrictions in place, so we much have a headcount in advance. Thank you!
One item on the “business” part of the agenda is elections of the Executive Committee and Chair. According to our bylaws, each current member is eligible for another term. As of now, no EC member has indicated that she/he will not run again. However, do not let that dissuade you from putting forward your name for consideration! We are an open and democratic group. The bylaws do allow for expansion of the Executive Committee; however, the EC has not (yet) determined if a larger EC would be necessary at this time. The election will NOT be held at the annual meeting owing to timing constraints imposed by our bylaws. We will hold the election after the turn of the year.
Apart from the EC, we desperately need your engagement with our two subcommittees: Membership & Communications and Policy & Strategy. Please consider. And serving does NOT require election! Volunteer, please!
One more thing: You will recall that Dr. Oberle met with the USNC earlier this year as part of his “listening tour.” The key outcomes from each of his meetings with National and Regional Committees are contained in an attached file. You might find this of considerable interest.
