Happy Earth Day!

April 22nd, is perhaps one of the best days of the year – Earth Day! Our home planet is about 70% water, meaning that the ocean is the true hero of Earth Day, and every day, really. The ocean is the cornerstone of Earth's life support system and makes life possible for us. Your ongoing support allows us to continue to ignite public support across the world for marine protected areas through Hope Spots. With 140 Hope Spots and counting, every effort and every person on this journey with us makes a difference. From the bottom of our blue hearts, thank you.

New Management Plan Approved for the
Cordillera de Coiba Hope Spot
Three cheers for Panama! In June 2021, Panama expanded the Cordillera de Coiba Marine Protected Area from approximately 17,000 to 68,000 square kilometers, accomplishing the goal of the Global Biodiversity Framework’s “30×30 Initiative” to protect 30% of the marine areas of the country by 2030. Héctor Guzmán, marine conservation biologist of the Smithsonian Institution, worked on the development and drafting of the plan for the management of the expanded protected area. He is also the Champion of the Cordillera de Coiba Hope Spot.

Since its founding nine years ago, Ethique has always given 2% of sales to charity. They recently founded the Ethique Foundation, a charitable trust to support organizations and individuals addressing environmental and social issues. Dr. Sylvia Earle Launches "Ocean Odyssey" 3D Movie at the Tennessee Aquarium
Her Deepness gave a post-screening speech at the March 4th premiere to celebrate the launch of the film and to kick off the Aquarium’s yearlong 30th-anniversary commemoration. Dr. Earle says, “'Ocean Odyssey' takes the viewer into the sea, into the blue heart of the planet. It’s in the ocean that the greatest abundance and diversity of life actually lives. It’s the ocean that shapes climate and weather. This film not only shows what is out there — down there — and why we should care, but also what we can do, while there is still time, to make a difference.”
