IUCN Digest - 26 April 2022

IUCN Digest
Welcome to the bi-weekly digest for IUCN Members and IUCN Commission members.
Message from the Director General

It has been an exciting month for IUCN. We just finished the first in-person meeting of the IUCN Council since the Congress in Marseille. Our Council reflected on opportunities to strengthen the Union – our engagement and mobilisation of the entire Union, as well as our profile and influence on the global policy and science arena. The week, which included an induction retreat and an evening gathering with the Secretariat (pictured), was marked by a spirit of collaboration and excitement for IUCN’s future. You will learn more about the outcomes of the Council meeting very soon in the Presidents’ Communiqué.
The weeks before the Council meeting were also busy. First, our Regional Directors came to Gland to strategise the way forward for the Union, exploring ways to strengthen our engagement with the Union’s Membership and to integrate our operations across the world. This was followed by the annual planning and budgeting workshop, where the Secretariat’s senior leadership took stock on progress against our targets.
IUCN has emerged from this past month stronger, and I look forward to what we, the Union, will achieve together.
