IUCN Digest - 7 June 2022

IUCN Digest
Welcome to the bi-weekly digest for IUCN Members and IUCN Commission members.
Message from the Director General

We just marked two key celebrations.
The first was Stockholm+50, which commemorated multilateral environmentalism over five decades. I represented IUCN at the official ceremonies in the Swedish capital, and reminded global leaders that urgent and bold action is needed to truly achieve sustainability (pictured).
The second event, World Environment Day, came immediately afterwards – and inspired us through the same theme as the conference which founded UNEP 50 years ago: ‘Only One Earth’. You can read my statement on both events here.
This week, I have taken advantage of being in this part of the world to meet with Members, donors and partners in Finland, Norway, and Denmark.

BIODEV2030 - Inspiring national action
To help halt nature loss, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD)-funded BIODEV2030 project aims to mainstream biodiversity into development in 16 countries. IUCN and WWF are working with local partners to establish national dialogues and foster ambitious, voluntary commitments for biodiversity in key economic sectors. This section will feature updates on this work. To kick-off, read more about a recent multi-stakeholder dialogue in Ethiopia here. For more information about this project, visit the website.
